in usual maya angelou fashion this is an autobiography memoir typa thing. as you can tell the name this one focuses mostly on her mother and her grandmother who also raised her. i read it all in one sitting it flew by. 8/10

this biography taught me how little i, and most people know about harriet tubman. did you know she was disabled ? when she was a slave she was hit over the head and it caused such bad brain damage that she became narcoleptic. she was falling asleep (passing out more like) while leading people on the underground railroad. this book is full of (not so fun) facts like that and also dismisses some commonly held misconceptions about harriet, the underground railroad, and slavery in general. 8/10 (10/10 information but part of my rating rubric is how much i enjoy the read and this one was decently tough to get through)

red at the bone. race, class, sexuality, generational trauma, 9/11, what doesn’t this book cover ? really easy read vocab wise (she usually writes for children) but emotionally tough to get through at times. something about a book having a 9/11 scene makes it corny to me. idk if it’s because of my year of rest and relaxation or if it’s from growing up with 9/11 memes or what. just can’t take it seriously for some reason, sorry. 7/10

it’s chewsday innit ? (read that in a bad british accent) tuesday means it’s time for a book review 📖 i really wanted to hate this one. i don’t like colleen hoover or her writing style. i find her prose to be of that weird modern staccato variety that i don’t care for. choppy and simple. feels like something i could write (and i’m not a good writer.) however, the plot was extremely entertaining and suspenseful. on page 15 i predicted everything that happened up until the epilogue, but i was no where near predicting the twist that happened in the epilogue. it threw me for such a loop; it made me sick to my stomach. i couldn’t stop thinking about it after i put it down. 6/10. plot is more like 9/10 but the 3/10 writing brings it down.
